much ve many daha çok olumsuz ve soru cümlelerinde kullanılır; olumlu cümlede günlük dilde a lot of daha doğaldır: I don’t have much time. / I have a lot of time.

- few, little = az, neredeyse hiç (olumsuz anlam): Few people came to the meeting. (kimse gelmedi sayılır)
- a few, a little = biraz, az ama yeterli (olumlu anlam): A few people came. (birkaç kişi geldi)
- quite a few = oldukça çok: Quite a few students passed.
Türkçe konuşanların sık saydığı sayılamayan isimler
Bu isimler İngilizcede sayılamaz; -s almaz, a/an ve many ile kullanılmaz: information, advice, news, furniture, equipment, homework, luggage, knowledge, research, progress.

Sınavlarda sık çıkan ayrımlar
- a number of + çoğul isim + çoğul fiil (birçok): A number of students have complained.
- the number of + çoğul isim + tekil fiil (sayısı): The number of students has increased.
- each / every + tekil isim ve tekil fiil: Every student has a book.
- both (ikisi de), either (ikisinden biri), neither (ikisi de değil) iki şey için kullanılır; ikiden fazlası için all, any, none.
- some olumlu cümle, teklif ve ricalarda; any olumsuz ve soru cümlelerinde: Would you like some tea? / Do you have any questions?

Quantifiers hakkında sorular
many sayılabilir çoğul isimlerle (many books), much sayılamayan isimlerle (much water) kullanılır. İkisi de daha çok olumsuz ve soru cümlelerinde geçer; olumlu cümlede a lot of daha yaygındır.
Hayır. few “az, neredeyse hiç” anlamıyla olumsuzdur: I have few friends. a few “birkaç, az ama var” anlamıyla olumludur: I have a few friends. Aynı fark little ve a little için de geçerlidir.
a number of “birçok” demektir ve çoğul fiil alır: A number of problems have appeared. the number of “…in sayısı” demektir ve tekil fiil alır: The number of problems has increased.
